BENJAMIN T. VADER
Benjamin T. Vader graduated from the Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He received a juris doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law in 2008. While in law school, he clerked for Jack Van Coevering and Kimbal Smith at the Michigan Tax Tribunal and worked at MSU’s low income tax clinic chaired by Michele Halloran. He worked for the Law Offices of Harold C. MacDonald, PLLC for five years before starting his own law firm in 2015.
Since 2010, Ben’s areas of focus have been Elder Law, Estate Planning, Trusts, Probate and Corporate Law. He is currently a member of the Probate and Estate Planning and Elder Law and Disability Rights sections of the Michigan bar association and an accredited attorney by the VA. He was selected as Super Lawyers Rising Star in Elder Law, and is a past member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
Ben and his beautiful wife, Alexia, are the proud parents of three children, Alex, Penelope, and John.
ANDREW J. THOMAS
Andrew J. Thomas graduated with a juris doctorate degree from Michigan State University College of Law. He specializes in Medicaid asset protection planning and probate litigation. Additionally, Andrew also represents clients in connection with estate planning, business planning, and real estate matters.
Andrew strives to provide his clients with the best service while keeping the fees generated by his time to the absolute minimum. To this end, Andrew incorporates easy to understand graphics and worksheets in Medicaid applications that increase the speed of Medicaid approvals. Similarly, he has engineered several tools to aid in the efficient and effective preparation of Medicaid applications. He regularly conducts seminars for our clients to educate them on the tools and techniques used by the firm to protect assets and on the importance of experienced representation when dealing with these complex matters.
He and his wife Melissa are the proud parents of three beautiful children and when he isn't practicing law, Andrew is a devoted father and husband.
ATTORNEY, Of Counsel
Ryan Barr graduated with a juris doctorate degree from Michigan State University College of Law. While in law school he worked at MSU’s rental housing clinic representing low income individuals in rental disputes. He specializes in Estate Planning, Special Needs Planning, Estate and Trust Administration, Probate and real estate matters.
Ryan is a active in the Washtenaw County Bar association and the Women’s Law Association of Washtenaw County (his wife is President). He has taken numerous continuing legal education classes over the years to stay current with the laws in the estate planning field. He has drafted hundreds of estate plans over the years ranging from simple estates to multi-million dollars estates, and encompassing all types of family dynamics.
When he is not working, Ryan enjoys spending time with friends and family. He and his wife Parisa live in the Ann Arbor area and have one daughter, Layli.
WILLIAM E. HAINES, II
William E. Haines, II graduated with a juris doctorate degree from Michigan State University College of Law. He specializes in Estate and Trust Administration, Medicaid asset protection planning, and probate litigation. He is currently a member of the Probate and Estate Planning and Elder Law and Disability Rights sections of the Michigan bar association.
William treats each legal question with compassion and focus as he determines the most efficient and direct solution. William works to respond in a timely manner to resolve any issues that arise. He uses all available technology and current law to advocate for his clients.
When he isn’t practicing, William and his fiancée, Rebecca, enjoy their time wake surfing, going to the Detroit Zoo, and exploring Michigan.
LAURIE A. LOPEZ
Laurie A. Lopez is the Office Manager with the Law Offices of Benjamin T. Vader, PLLC. She has worked in the legal field for close to twenty years and has worked with Mr. Vader since 2012. Her extensive legal knowledge and experience are invaluable assets to the firm and she provides an unparalleled approach and commitment to client services.
Laurie is an active participant in her church and community. She is an advocate and regular supporter of several international humanitarian and charity organizations providing resources, education, food and care for families and children in need. Laurie also gives to many local animal shelters. She personally provides medical care, shelter, food, and love for many abandoned animals in her area. Laurie also treasures spending time with her nieces and nephews, her dogs, and her loving husband.
